Nocturia of twice per night is linked to adverse effects on health, safety and wellbeing with specific risk for falls, hospitalisation and morbidly. Nocturia is caused by changes in awareness, sleep, bladder function and urine production prompted by comorbid health issues and age-related mechanisms. Continence professionals working with older persons should screen for the symptom of nocturia. Assessment that identifies underlying causes in individual patients will support choice of effective management strategies for the older person with nocturia and their family /carer. This Round Table will review current knowledge and best practice when addressing nocturia in older co-morbid patients presenting to continence or aged care services.
