Betty Exintaris has a general research interest in urogenital physiology and pharmacology, as well as the teaching of physiology and pharmacology to undergraduate students. In her role as an academic, she co-ordinates various undergraduate units, as well as the Honours program for the Department of Drug Discovery Biology, Monash University. In recent years, she has been actively involved in the design and development of units in the Masters of Pharmacy degree. In 2018, she was the recipient of the ASCEPT Gillian Shenfield award, in 2019, she was awarded a Faculty Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning and in 2020, she received a faculty team award for her contribution to a Program that Enhances Student Learning. Betty has been awarded ‘lecturer of the year’ by the Monash Student Parkville Association 10 times. She is the resilience lead at the Faculty and has an interest in easing transition burden in 1st year students, building resilience in national and international student cohorts and providing mentorship and professional development for teaching associates.
Betty runs a research program on prostate physiology and disease; currently this is the only group in the world investigating the spontaneous contractile and electrical activity in the human prostate gland. She has 36 manuscripts in high quality, peer-reviewed journals and >50 published abstracts from conference proceedings. She has 20 years’ experience in electrophysiological and tension recording techniques. She has received awards and invitations to speak at National and International meetings, based on this work
