Obtained PhD in biomedical engineering in 1974 from Stanford University, California and joined the faculty of the Department of Urology at the Stanford Medical School in 1977. Initial research work centered on the study of upper urinary tract urodynamics and pharmacolgy followed by clinical urodynamic studies of patients with urinary incontinence and volnteers. Current work focuses on the study of pelvic floor function and the development of sensor technology, and ultrasound imaging.
