International Continence Society

Giulio Del Popolo was born in Junin (Buenos Aires) Argentina on 22/05/1960. He got his Medical Degree from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 1986 and a post-graduate Specialization in Urology, from the University of Florence, Italy, in 1993. He has been working in the Neuro-Urology and Spinal Unit of Careggi University Hospital since 1994. Since 2004 to date he is the Director of the Neuro-Urology Unit, at Careggi University Hospital . From 2011 to 2015 he was the Director of the Tuscan Spinal Cord Regional Agency Department.
Since 2012 to date he is also the Director of the Spinal Unit, at Careggi University Hospital.
He has been involved with Florence University as a Professor of "Neuro-Urology and Urodynamics" at the Post-graduate Specialization School in Urology since 2001 and at the School of Physiotherapy since 2002. In 2003 he organized the first Italian graduate training course in “Neuro-Urology and Neuro-Andrology” at the University of Florence.
He has organized several national and international meetings, and has published many scientific papers on the topic of Uro-Gynecology and Neuro-Urology in national, international journals, and several books. He has won several scientific prizes for best contribution at the National Meeting of the Italian Urodynamics Society and of the Italian Urology Society as well as at EAU on the topic of LUTD. From 2002 to 2006 he was President of the Italian Medical Society of Paraplegia. From 2012 to 2015 he was President and now is acting Past President of the Italian Society of Urodynamics (SIUD).He is now member of the Neuro-Urology Promotion Committee of the International Continence Society and will be Meeting Chair of the 2017 Congress.
Since 2000 he has been a Fellow of the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS). He is also a member of the European Association of Urology (EAU) Guidelines panel on “Neurogenic Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction”. He is involved in many research projects regarding pelvic floor dysfunctions and spinal cord injury.
