Philip E.V. Van Kerrebroeck MD, PhD, MMSc was born in Louvain (B) , and after obtaining a MD from the University of Leuven (B) , he trained in General Surgery and Urology in Belgium, the Netherlands and the USA. Registered as a urologist in 1984, he received a Masters Degree in Medical Sciences (MMSc) from the University of Antwerp (B) in 1992 and the PhD degree in medicine from the University of Nijmegen (Nl) in 1993. Since 1993 he is Fellow of the European Board of Urology.
He was appointed as Professor of Urology at the University of Maastricht in 1996, and reached the emeritus status in October 2019. He was Chairman of the Department of Urology in the Maastricht University Medical Center from 1996 till 2011. He has a long standing clinical interest in neurogenic and non-neurogenic functional problems of the lower urinary tract. His research interests are the development of new therapies in Neuro-Urology, such as neuromodulation and experimental pharmacotherapeutic modalities for voiding dysfunction, including nocturia, and erectile problems.
Philip is Board Member of the International Continence Society and the European Association of Urology, and is vice-chair of the EAU Policy office, leading the “Urge to Act” campaign for the EU.
He serves as reviewer for 25 scientific journals, authored >300 peer reviewed articles, and published 82 books and book chapters in the field of urology and cultural anthropology.
