Helmut Madersbacher

The ICS Board of Trustees were delighted to announce Helmut Madersbacher as the 2019 winner of the ICS Lifetime Achievement Award. Helmut’s contribution to the ICS and research in the field of Neurourology incontinence and functional disorders warranted this award which was presented to him during our annual meeting in Gothenburg at ICS 2019.

Helmut joined the ICS in 1973, following his attendance at the society’s 3rd annual meeting in Copenhagen. He has continued his membership ever since that date and has only missed two annual meetings. In 1984 he chaired the 14th ICS Annual Meeting in Innsbruck and throughout his long term membership of his society he held roles on the Board, Education Committee and Neurourology Committee. Helmut accepted the award with his typical good grace and charm. Part of his acceptance speech included him playing back music used long ago when trying to keep presenters to time. The audience were quite entertained!

This award was created to honour an individual who has made a lifetime commitment and a lasting contribution to the advancement of science, education, clinical practice or public awareness in the field of continence. Helmut’s award was well-deserved, acknowledging his contribution to the ICS and field of Neuro-Urology incontinence and functional disorders.
