This week's hall of fame member is Karl-Erik Andersson.

Name: Karl-Erik Andersson

Profession: Clinical Pharmacologist/ Basic scientist.

Why are you an ICS member: I became a member of the ICS in the 1970-ies because at that time it was a relatively small society where experienced clinical scientists, mainly urologists, met and discussed with younger colleagues, both from the preclinical and clinical fields. Even if the ICS has grown and includes many specialities, it is still a forum that brings together people from preclinical and clinical sciences within the continence/incontinence field in a unique way.

Which was your first ICS meeting: Glasgow, 4th - 6th September 1975

Special ICS memories: I have too many!

Biggest influence: Showing that translational research (going from basic science to bed-side) is an exciting and promising approach to the continence/incontinence field.

The one paper (or book/article/video) you must read/view: Andersson KE, Wein AJ. Pharmacology of the lower urinary tract: basis for current and future treatments of urinary incontinence. Pharmacol Rev. 2004 Dec;56(4):581-63

If you could go back in time what advice would you give to yourself and why: Collaborate with people within other specialties - they may have special skills that you can transfer to your own field of interest. Always try to look for new approaches to the field
