The 2018 Local Organising Committee is very proud to have Warren M. Grill attend and speak in Philadelphia.
Warren M Grill is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. His research is in neural engineering and neuromodulation with applications to restoration of bladder function, deep brain stimulation and treatment of pain. His lecture is entitled "THE FUTURE OF ELECTROCEUTICALS – IMPLANTABLE DEVICES IN THE LOWER URINARY TRACT" and will be presented on Friday 31st August at 11:00.
Electroceuticals, also termed bioelectronic medicines, describe high-resolution interfaces to record, stimulate or block activity in the autonomic nervous system. These approaches applied to peripheral nerves innervating the lower urinary tract offer the promise to treat neurourological dysfunction including overactive bladder and detrusor underactivity / urinary retention. Dr. Grill will describe how the parameters of stimulation can be modulated to restore both continence and efficient emptying as will also consider the underlying physiological mechanisms.
Warren has published over 170 articles and been awarded 38 US patents. Dr. Grill serves on the editorial boards of Brain Stimulation, J Neural Engineering and Current Opinion in Biomedical Engineering. He is a Fellow of The American Institute of Medical and The Biological Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Society. In 2014 he received the Duke University Scholar/Teacher of the Year and was awarded an NIH Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award in 2015.
