The aim of the first half of the workshop is to identify and discuss the importance of exercise during and after labour to maintain function and quality of life both of the women and the fetus with life long implications for both.
The aim of the second half of the workshop is firstly to describe current thinking in the aetiology and management of male pelvic pain and then to look at the physiotherapeutic options and in detail the complete physical therapy protocol that was the basis for an NIH funded study on the feasibility for the utilization of physical therapy to managed chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS).
Learning Objectives - At the conclusion of the first two presentations, the participant will be able to understand the rationale and evidence behind the use of exercise in the prevention and treatment of pregnancy and postpartum related dysfunction including OASIS
- Following the third presentation the participant will have a better understanding of the current evidence on exercise in general in the peri-partum period
- At the completion of this lecture the participant will be able to describe and discuss the aetiology and MDT management of male pelvic pain and then more specifically the evidence base of techniques such as myofascial techniques as described in the physical therapy protocol utilized in the NIH funded randomized controlled trial in the management of urological chronic pain syndromes
