I have worked for many years as a physiotherapist in Women's Health. Until May 2008 I was a Clinical Specialist/Research Associate (continence) as a joint position with Belfast City Hospital and the University of Ulster. My main areas of clinical expertise are gynae/oncology, male urology, all aspects of female pelvic floor dysfunction, and incontinence relating to neurological conditions. I completed a PhD in 2006; the associated research reported on the effects of physiotherapeutic interventions for people with Multiple Sclerosis and bladder dysfunction. I have recently been appointed a Professor of Physiotherapy and Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation with the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions, Research Unit, Glasgow Caledonian University, and will be undertaking further research relating to continence in neurological conditions, pelvic organ prolapse and continence. I am the CI in several ongoing projects including AMBER a multi-centred RCT on abdominal massage for constipation in people with MS
I am currently the Chair of the UK's Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological professional Network of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
